Embedding Items
What is Embedding an Item?
This is an example of an embedded video.
Normally when you would need to show a video in a discussion post or for an assessment you would usually post a link, and when this link is clicked it opens a new web page, either in the current tab or a new one. Embedding a video allows you to add the video directly onto the web page eliminating the need to go to a new page. This makes watching the video and reading any information you have posted much easier. A regular link you may post looks something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgh1Igj_uU0
Embed code looks similar but has a few things added to it:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jgh1Igj_uU0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
To find out if the media item you need can be embedded look around on the site for a “Share”, “Embed”, or “Get HTML code”. Here is an example on how to get the code from a YouTube video.
Click the Share button and you will be greeted with this pop up:
Now click the embed button and now you have the code
If you need the video to star at a certain time you can check off the Start at button and enter a time. Once you are happy with the video hit copy and move onto the next step.
Embedding an item in CourseLink
You are able to embed a video anywhere that you have this editor
Just look for the rectangle with the play and click it. If the editor does not have this button you will not be able to embed a video.
Select the Enter Embed Code option, paste the code, and hit next. You will then get a preview and can press finish to be done.
