Respondus Lockdown Browser

About Respondus LockDown Browser

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment in CourseLink. When students use LockDown Browser to access a quiz, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading. Tests created for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with standard browsers, either.

How Respondus LockDown Browser Integrates with CourseLink

When the integration with Respondus LockDown Browser is enabled for your course site, you will be able to enable it for any quiz within your course site. You may use it for as many of your quizzes as you would like. A new LockDown Browser option will appear on your Quizzes page in CourseLink.

Location of the LockDown Browser option with a red arrow pointing to it.

After clicking that option you will be able to select which of your existing quizzes should enable LockDown browser.

Once enabled for a quiz, students will only be able to start the quiz if they have the LockDown browser downloaded and installed. If they do not yet have it installed, the option to download it will be available from the start quiz page.

Once the LockDown Browser is installed, the student will be able to select Launch LockDown Browser and begin the quiz. They will only have access to the quiz and no other web sites or applications on their computer until the quiz is submitted.

Note: It is highly recommended that you create a simple one-question sample quiz in your course site that students can access ahead of the graded quiz using respondus to allow time to troubleshoot any potential technical issues they may encounter.

Availability

Respondus LockDown Browser is available to any course site on CourseLink, however before it can be used it must be enabled for a course site/course code by CourseLink Support. Please see the How to Enable This Integration section below for more details.

How to Enable This Integration

If you are using online quizzes in CourseLink and would like to enable the Respondus LockDown Browser integration with the CourseLink quizzes tool on your course site, please contact CourseLink Support and request that it be enabled for your course.

This integration is typically enabled in such a way that you will only need to request that it be enabled once for the same course code. For example, if you teach ABCD*1000 with the Respondus LockDown Browser integration enabled in W20, then teach the ABCD*1000 course again in W21, the integration will already be enabled in the W21 version of the course site.

Please note that it is recommended that this integration is setup well in advance of any graded quiz that you are planning to use with this integration. This will allow time to setup a quick sample quiz using the integration for your students to access and ensure they are not experiencing any issues with downloading the LockDown Browser or accessing the quizzes using that integration ahead of the graded quiz.
