Students: CourseLink Tools

Groups

What is the Groups Tool?

Your instructor may use groups to organize students’ work on projects and assignments, or create special work areas for students with assigned work.

Students can belong to multiple groups within the same course; you may belong to a group for class projects, a group for special interest discussions, and a group for advanced users. Each group can have its own discussion forums, dropbox, and locker area to work in. You may be asked to submit an assignment to a dropbox as part of a group.

Accessing the Groups Tool

The Groups tool is one of the links found on the default navigation bar of your CourseLink course site and can be accessed directly from that link.

For Distance Education (DE) courses, the Groups link appears under the drop-down menu of the Tools link on the navigation bar (provided that the course is using Groups).

Enroll into a Group

Navigate to the Groups Tool:

  • Log in to the CourseLink course.

  • Click on the "Tools" menu in the navigation bar (this may vary by course layout).

  • Select "Groups" from the dropdown menu.

  1. View Available Groups:

    • In the Groups page, you'll see a list of available group categories. Look for the group category your instructor has enabled for self-enrollment.

  2. Enroll in a Group:

    • Click the "Join Group" button or link next to the group you wish to enroll in.

    • If groups are full or restricted, you might see a note indicating that enrollment is not possible.

  3. Confirmation:

    • Once you join a group, you should see your group listed on the Groups page. Some courses may also display group membership in the "Classlist" or relevant group activity areas like assignments or discussions.
